The Massachusetts LEAP State Initiative brought together 22 public campuses in Massachusetts in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education to develop a statewide plan for learning outcomes assessment. It is based on the assessment of authentic student work using selected LEAP Essential Learning Outcomes and Value rubrics developed under the auspices of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U).
A report on the pilot study is available here: Report on the Massachusetts Assessment Pilot Study
A summary of the assessment proposal is available here: Statewide Learning Outcomes Assessment Proposal
The pilot study collected artifacts that were assessed using three LEAP rubrics: Written Communication, Quanitative Literacy, and Critical Thinking. We have created a short list of the kinds of assignments that require students to think critically. The list is not exhaustive, but it may give you a better idea of the kinds of assignments and projects that may produce Critical-Thinking-Artifacts.
You can access all of the LEAP Rubrics here.
